With zippy top speeds and superbly long ranges, today’s ebikes can whisk you almost anywhere. Yet, if you’re bumping around on two wheels for hours on end, you’ll want something comfortable—trust us.

We picked our seven favorite ebikes that deliver a cushy ride no matter where you’re zooming off to next.

eBikes have become transportation toys for adults.

And I’m thrilled about it.

Zipping around town on an ebike is fun, nostalgic, efficient, and far better than getting gouged by gas prices or walking until you melt into a sweat puddle on the sidewalk.

I’ve rounded up a list of the smoothest, cushiest rides so you can whizz by standstill traffic in total comfort.

Which Factors Did I Consider in Deciding on Comfort?

Model riding Aventon ebike downtown

What exactly makes an ebike comfortable to ride? There are several factors at play.

I’ve considered the riding position, seat, handlebars, tires, and shock absorption elements on each of the seven models below. I’ve also taken standard features into account like the range, top speed, and safety features of each of these ebikes.

7 Most Comfortable eBikes in 2023

Best Overall: Aventon Pace 500 Next-Gen

1.
Aventon Pace 500 Next-Gen eBike

The Pace 500 Next-Gen is a remarkably sleek, comfortable, and powerful cruiser with an impressive top speed and range for its price point. If you’re new to ebikes but want to enter the game with some serious momentum, this bad boy serves up the ideal mix of features.

Aventon’s Pace 500 Next-Gen takes the cake as the best overall ebike for comfort, cruisability (that’s a word, right?), and an ideal makeup of features.

Black Aventon PAce 500 Next Gen

Founded in Los Angeles by two friends with extensive knowledge of the cycling industry, Aventon has taken off as one of the top ebike producers on the market. Today, they deliver a dazzling lineup of ebikes that accommodate different riding needs and styles.

The most notable comfort features on the Pace 500 Next-Gen include a perfect upright riding position, adjustable handlebars, a soft yet supportive Velo Comfort saddle, and 2.2” puncture-proof tires. Let’s examine how these features work together to create a thoroughly enjoyable ride.

Putting battery of Aventon ebike

On many road bikes, you’ll find yourself bent over the handlebars, scrunching up your lower back, and distributing weight forward onto your arms. This can screw up your posture and leave you stiff and sore.

With the Pace 500 Next-Gen, Aventon has implemented upright cruiser frame geometry. This is designed to put you in a fully upright riding position that keeps your back straight, your head over your shoulders, and your arms directly out in front of you.

This seemingly small design feature helps remove tons of potential strain and allows you to ride longer distances without getting kinks in your neck or back.

Plenty of ebikes offer an upright riding position, but the Pace 500 Next-Gen is the only model Aventon offers with an adjustable handlebar stem so you can choose the perfect angle for the handlebars.

Adjustable handlebars of Aventon Pace 500

This ebike also features a Velo Comfort saddle that’s soft yet wide and supportive to sit on. The saddle paired with 2.2” puncture-proof tires soften bumps along the way and make the Pace 500 Next-Gen a standout ride in the comfort category.

What I Like

  • I like that the Pace 500 Next-Gen offers both a comfortable upright riding position and a sporty design.
  • This bike strikes the perfect balance between being comfortable, powerful, and well-priced.
  • The puncture-proof tires, Velo Comfort saddle, and integrated lights provide you with comfort and safety.
  • With a 40-mile range and top speeds of up to 28mph, you can take this wherever you need to around town.

What I Don’t Like

  • The hydraulic disc brakes squeal as you break them in.

What Other Reviews Say

Most people who bought a Pace 500 Next-Gen are impressed with the quality of the bike and features for the price.

Lots of folks noted how powerful the pedal assist and throttle were, delivering ample power to take on hills, wind, or whatever they ran into on their journey. One guy even said he sold his car after relying on his new ebike to take him wherever he needed to go.

The Verdict

Beyond its comfy but sporty design, the Pace 500 Next-Gen serves up a 28mph top speed and nearly 40 miles of range, which is great if you’re going to be leaning on this to commute to and from work or to run quick errands.

The Pace 500 Next-Gen is a powerful cruiser that strikes a fragile balance between comfort, performance, and power at a killer price point. This is for guys who want to jump into the ebike game and get a mix of all the best features.

Best on a Budget: Lectric XP Lite

2.
Lectric XP Lite

The XP Lite is one of the cheapest and most versatile folding ebikes you can get your hands on.

Even at its minimal price point, the XP Lite grants you nearly 40 miles of range in the lowest pedal assist mode. It's a comfortable, compact, affordable ebike that’s versatile enough for anyone and would be ideal to take with you on road trips.

Check Price

It’s not often that you’d find a foldable ebike with comfortable features for under $1,000, but that’s exactly what Lectric’s XP Lite gives you.

View this post on Instagram

Rooted in humble beginnings from a small garage in Phoenix, Arizona, Lectric was founded by two friends and a motivated dad who hatched the idea of creating an affordable and adventurous ebike for the masses.

The most notable comfort features on the XP Lite include an upright riding position, long-stemmed handlebars, thick 2.6” tires, and an upgradable suspension seat post.

The Lectric XP is significantly cheaper than other ebikes in its class and folds down to an impressively puny size of 36” long by 27” high, an item that would easily fit in the passenger seat of a car.

View this post on Instagram

The long-stemmed handlebars and adjustable seat on the XP Lite allow for an upright riding position and the thicker 2.6” tires soften the road below better than thinner tires will.

One of the best features that’ll add noticeable comfort to your ride is the ability to upgrade to a Giant seat and suspension seat post for an extra $100. Even with this upgrade, you’ll still fall below $1,000.

A suspension seat post absorbs shock from bumps and provides you with an airy, spring-loaded feeling that is considerably more forgiving than rigid seat posts.

What I Like

  • The XP Lite is the most affordable ebike on the market with a 40-mile range.
  • The foldable design gives you the ability to easily transport and store this ebike.
  • Despite being a foldable ebike, it still offers a comfortable upright riding position.

What I Don’t Like

  • This doesn’t have the power or upgraded features of other, pricier models.
  • You have to pay for an upgraded suspension seat.

What Other Reviews Say

Most XP Lite riders are satisfied with their purchase and point out how lightweight and maneuverable this bike is.

Some reviewers also pointed out how nimble and versatile this model was and how quality the brakes were. One user was annoyed with how tough it was to get to the battery as the bike has to be folded to access it.

The Verdict

The XP Lite is one of the cheapest and most versatile folding ebikes you can get your hands on.

Even at its minimal price point, the XP Lite grants you nearly 40 miles of range in the lowest pedal assist mode. It’s a comfortable, compact, affordable ebike that’s versatile enough for anyone and would be ideal to take with you on road trips.

Best for Off-Road: Aventon Aventure.2

3.
Aventon Aventure.2

Fly across pavement, sand, dirt, and snow on the ultimate adventure ride. Aventon's Aventure.2 is an e-bike on steroids with 4" puncture-proof tires, an on-demand throttle, hydraulic disk brakes, and a 750W motor that delivers 28mph top speeds and up to 60 miles on a single charge. Take it to work...or directly up a mountain.

Who would have thought Aventon would keep adding better and better bikes to an already stacked lineup? And who would have thought they’d be planning to move production to the US by 2025? Turns out, JW Zhang, founder of the brand, was planning that all along. Props to you, Mr. Zhang.

Unlike some of Aventon’s friendlier street models, the Aventure.2 packs an off-road punch.

It’s equipped with 4” puncture-proof tires, an on-demand throttle, hydraulic disk brakes, and a 750W motor that delivers 28mph top speeds and up to 60 miles on a single charge. These are the type of features designed to let you fly across pavement, sand, dirt, or snow.

aventure2 step over lifestyle 02 1
The Aventon Aventure.2 in the wild

But what impressed me most about the Aventure.2 is the new built-in torque sensor. Usually only available in more expensive models, a torque sensor uses intuitive technology to amplify your pedaling cadence, delivering a smoother ride—even if you’re, you know, not exactly riding over the smoothest surfaces.

Performance specs aside, this ebike still places you in a comfortable upright riding position. At its price, it’s one of the best and most adventurous ebikes you’ll find. Take it to work…or directly up a mountain, your choice.

What I Like

  • The torque sensor creates a smoother, easier pedaling cadence.
  • The powerful 750W motor delivers fast speeds and a long range.
  • The Aventure.2 can handle sand, snow, and dirt but still functions well in the city.
  • This is well-priced for an off-road-ready bike.

What I Don’t Like

  • It doesn’t have a seat shock absorber.
  • It’s less rugged in the body and tires compared to other off-road bikes.

What Other Reviewers Say

Aventon’s Aventure series has very positive overall reviews. Riders love this series for the quality design and build that holds up on pavement and trails and the easy-riding feeling this bike delivers. One guy pointed out how heavy the bike is and how hard it can be to pedal if you aren’t using pedal assist, which is something to keep in mind.

The Verdict

Ready for pavement, sand, snow, and dirt, Aventon’s Aventure.2 packs an off-road punch at a supreme price point for an adventure bike. With a torque sensor for smoother pedaling, 4” puncture-proof tires, a 28 mph top speed, and a 60-mile range, it offers a versatile mix of performance features.

The Aventure.2 has a sleek body that looks as good downtown as it does kicking up dirt. This is a terrific option for any guy who’s seeking to take his ebike across more than just one surface.

Upgrade Pick: Revi Bikes Cheetah Cafe Racer

Mirroring the design of a stripped-down cafe racer motorbike, Revi Bike’s Cheetah Cafe Racer offers a ride that’s as stylish as it is comfy.

View this post on Instagram

With over 15 years of experience in the ebike industry and 80% of their parts sourced from the open market, Revi Bikes creates high-end designs that can be individually customized and enhanced.

The most notable comfort features on the Cheetah Cafe Racer are the upright riding position, wide and soft saddle with a mechanical spring, and 26” circumference fat 4” tires.

The Cheetah Cafe Racer has a sleek, low-profile design and leather accents that few other ebikes offer. The leather saddle with a mechanical spring is wide, thick, and extremely soft which earns this ebike instant comfort points.

View this post on Instagram

Fat tires not only enable you to trek through various terrain, but they also cushion your ride. Like other ebikes on this list, the Cheetah Cafe Racer is designed to place you in a neutral upright riding position.

What I Like

  • The Cheetah Cafe Racer is a sharp-looking, stylized ebike that mimics the design of a traditional cafe racer motorbike.
  • The low-profile design, cushy leather seat, and fat tires make this as comfortable as it is stylish.
  • The powerful 48V, 750W motor will let you cruise all over town for up to 45-miles.

What I Don’t Like

  • This is an expensive ebike compared to similar models.

What Other Reviews Say

There aren’t tons of reviews online for the Cheetah Cafe Racer, but the ones I found were overwhelmingly positive.

Many reviewers noted how quality the engineering and styling are on this ebike. Some people discussed getting compliments while out riding and others talked about how much they enjoyed the power and speed it provides.

One thing a few reviewers took notice of was how heavy this bike is, so be prepared for this increased weight if you snag one.

The Verdict

The Cheetah Cafe Racer is equipped with upgraded features like a rounded, bright headlight, a 45-mile range and a powerful 48V 750W motor, and stylish leather accents on the seat, body, and hand grips.

Looking more like a motorbike than an ebike, the Cheetah Cafe Racer delivers comfort and upgraded features that distinguish it from other ebikes. If you want something eye-catching to pull up at the cafe or bar on, this bike is for you.

Best for Seniors: Aventon Sinch Step-Through

Aventon’s versatile lineup includes everything from sporty off-road ebikes to easy-riding step-through models.

Woman on Aventon Sinch Step Through

The Aventon Sinch Step-Through is an ideal folding ebike for older riders with notable comfort features like an upright seating position, a step-through frame design, front suspension, high-up handlebars, and fat 4” tires.

Like the Aventon Pace 500 Next-Gen, the Sinch Step-Through puts you in an upright seated position that’s comfortable on your back and neck. The step-through frame allows you to literally step through the bike to get on instead of swinging a leg over the seat like you have to do with most ebike frames.

The front suspension and 4” thick rubber tires will absorb and soften nearly any terrain and create a plush, bump-free ride.

The Sinch Step-Through offers an assortment of desirable features in an ebike. It folds up for seamless storage, has a remarkable 54-mile range on the first level of pedal assist, and will cruise for nearly 30 miles just on the throttle alone with no pedaling.

Man and woman with Aventon Sinch Step Through

For older riders who want to get around without exerting maximal effort, this bike has all the needed power and battery life.

The flat handlebars sit high above the seat for a relaxed grip and easy maneuverability. The mechanical disc brakes allow for quick, smooth stops which is ideal if you value an increased sense of safety.

The step-through design of the frame and fat tires are what make the Sinch Step-Through the most approachable design for riders of all ages. Stepping-through the frame gives you easy access to mount and demount the bike without risking tipping over or falling sideways.

The fat tires provide extra stability, making pavement rides extra cushy, and giving you the ability to venture off-road.

What I Like

  • The Sinch Step-Through delivers a perfect mix of qualities like a 54-mile range, a simple step-through frame design, and 4” fat tires for a cushy ride.
  • This ebike is ideal for older riders who want to sit in a comfortable upright position and be able to easily mount and demount.
  • This bike is completely foldable for easy storage and transportation.

What I Don’t Like

  • The thick, 4” tires might feel big and annoying to some riders.

What Other Reviews Say

The people who have purchased a Sinch-Step Through praise them for a variety of reasons, such as the simple step-through design, the ability to fold this bike up, and the powerful motor that delivers a terrific range.

A few folks mentioned that the assembly can be a bit tricky, so make sure you set aside some time to properly follow instructions and refer to Aventon’s detailed video tutorial.

The Verdict

The Sinch Step-Through is a thoughtfully-designed ebike that’s compact, easily accessible, and packs loads of power and distance.

It’s terrific for older riders, but also people taking their bike on the go, adventuring on trails and off-road terrain, and wanting something stable and comfortable to cruise around on.

Easiest Riding: Charge Comfort 2 Step-Through

Produced by the makers of Schwinn, the Charge Comfort 2 Step-Through is as classic of a bike design as you can get.

View this post on Instagram

Founded in 2004, Charge set out to produce affordable bikes that were durable and fun to ride. When ebike technology hit the market, they recognized its ability to make biking even easier and weaved it into their production.

The most notable comfort features on the Charge Comfort 2 Step-Through are the upright seating position, light-weight step-through frame, ergonomic saddle, and wide tires for a more stable ride.

If you’ve ever ridden a bike before, then you can ride the Charge Comfort 2 Step-Through. Designed with a classic, step-through frame and an upright seating position, it’s approachable for new or experienced riders.

View this post on Instagram

A cozy, ergonomic saddle and wider tires provide extra stability and cushion on uneven surfaces and the angled handlebars give you a laid-back comfortable grip.

The Charge Comfort 2 Step-Through is lighter than most ebikes, weighing in at just 55lbs with the battery. And though it’s nimble, it maintains a rider capacity of 300lbs, which allows you to attach a child seat to the integrated rear rack to take little ones on the go.

What I Like

  • The Charge Comfort 2 Step-Through offers a classic, nostalgic bicycle design with a step-through frame for easy access.
  • At 55lbs, this is lighter and more nimble than other ebikes you’ll find on the market.
  • The integrated rear rack is ideal for taking your kid with you or personal items.

What I Don’t Like

  • The Charge Comfort 2 Step-Through only reaches a top speed of 20mph, which is fairly slow given for its price point.
  • This doesn’t have front shocks or a suspension seat and won’t feel as comfortable or smooth as other models on this list.

What Other Reviews Say

There were very few reviews of the Charge Comfort 2 Step-Through online. Though, the ones I could find talked about how nimble and smooth this ebike was to ride around town.

With a 250W motor—smaller than the 500-750W motors on most other ebikes—one reviewer found that this bike lacked torque and speed.

The Verdict

The Charge Comfort 2 Step-Through is lighter and nimbler than most ebikes and comes with an integrated rear rack to carry the a little one around with you, but with a smaller motor, you won’t get as much of an oomph in the speed and power departments.

If you’re new to ebikes and want something nimble that matches the feel of an ordinary bicycle, this ebike is for you.

It’s durable, yet lightweight and comfortable and allows for easy mounting and demounting with the step-through frame.

Best for Two Riders: Rad Power Bikes RadRunner Plus

Perhaps the best two-seater on the market, Rad Power Bikes RadRunner Plus combines the design of a practical cruiser with plenty of power and range for two at an extremely affordable price point.

View this post on Instagram

Before Rad Power Bikes became the largest ebike marker in North America, it began as a teenager’s makeshift project to get to and from school faster. Soon, Mike Radenbaugh became known as the “ebike guy” converting ordinary bikes to ebikes and selling them by word-of-mouth.

Today, Rad Power Bikes aims to make ebikes for daily use that sustainably replace the need for cars and other forms of transportation.

The most notable comfort features of the RadRunner Plus are the upright seating position, step-through frame design, cushy bench seat for passengers, front suspension fork, and thick tires.

View this post on Instagram

The upright position and step-through frame make it especially simple for the driver to get on and off the bike and put their feet down for extra support when the passenger is mounting and demounting.

The front suspension, thick tires, and bench seat in the back allow two passengers to sail over bumps and uneven terrain without feeling all the shock and bounce.

The wide, plush driver seat can be adjusted to align with the passenger bench seat for moped-like seating. This bike also includes all-weather disc brakes for quick stops in any conditions.

What I Like

  • The RadRunner Plus has a 750W motor and an impressive 45-mile range.
  • This is a beast of an ebike with an integrated leather bench seat to easily carry a passenger with you.
  • With upright seating and a step-through design, this bike is simple and comfortable to use.

What I Don’t Like

  • The built-in passenger seat isn’t ideal for people who mostly ride on their own.

What Other Reviews Say

People who purchased a RadRunner Plus revere it for being a heavy-duty ebike with durability and power. Some riders even noted how well it performed off-road on trails.

One reviewer noted that the seat kept sliding down unless it was clamped shut with the perfect tightness.

The Verdict

The RadRunner Plus is a comfortable and functional beast that’s ideal for daily use and taking someone with you.

With a 750W motor and a 45-mile range you’ll be free to cruise long distances before you need to recharge. The front suspension and fat tires will soften bumps and the integrated lights provide a quality added safety feature.

This is for guys who will be relying on their ebike to commute, carrying someone with them, or who want extra space for storage while running errands.

4 Key Things to Consider When Choosing an eBike

An Upright Riding Position

Model riding black Aventon Pace 500
Cruising with the Aventon Pace 500 Next-Gen

You might have noticed that all seven of the ebikes I’ve selected in this article are built to put you in a neutral upright riding position. This isn’t coincidental.

In fact, Mark Mason, an expert design engineer running an award-winning product engineering, invention, and design studio, discussed the sitting position of bikes in a 2010 article.

Quite practically, he states that “bicycles are designed for people to use, so like chairs and most things we sit on, they need to be comfortable and healthy.”

He goes on to point out that in bike-friendly countries like the Netherlands and Denmark, the upright riding position evolved as the de facto design for everyday cyclists in streetwear, opposed to the hunched over posture seen by racing cyclists.

When you’re hunting for a comfortable ride, first look for an upright riding position that minimizes the strain on your neck and back.

Seat & Tires

View this post on Instagram

One of these is directly touching the road and the other is directly touching your rear end. Be sure to seek out a bike with thicker tires and a wide, cushy saddle to support you as you cruise around.

If you can upgrade to a suspension seat post, I recommend doing so. If you’re using your ebike to commute or riding it all over town, you’ll appreciate this increased level of comfort and shock absorption over time.

Battery & Motor

Motor of Aventon Pace 500

It’s important to consider the parts of an ebike that will be boosting you along. Look for a battery in the 40-50V range, this will deliver a sufficient charge that propels you along for 25-45 miles depending on how much pedal assist you use and what kind of landscape you’re riding across.

Most motors are measured in watts. Aventon’s Pace 500 Next-Gen comes with a powerful 500w motor, but good ebikes will fluctuate anywhere from 300-750w. This translates to power, torque, and speed, so if you can afford it, opt for a bigger, better motor.

If owning a light, nimble ebike is one of your top priorities, you might consider choosing a smaller, slimmer battery and motor that won’t deliver as much punch, but won’t bog you down, either.

Integrated Safety Features

View this post on Instagram

Look for ebikes that have front and rear lights built into the frame and a bright headlight for safe riding at night.

When it comes to stopping on a dime, see if the brand you’re buying from shelled out for brakes from a quality bike parts manufacturer like Shimano. For faster, safer stops, opt for hydraulic or mechanical disc brakes, which perform better than rubber brake pads.

For older, less mobile riders, or those wanting a simple, straightforward design, opt for step-through bikes that allow you to easily mount and demount without swinging your leg over the seat.

Cruise Along In Comfort

eBikes are taking over.

They’re fun, convenient, highly efficient toys to jet around on. But if you’re gonna snag one, snag a cushy ride.

Our best overall pick for comfort, power, and price is Aventon’s Pace 500 Next-Gen. Like the best and most comfortable ebikes, it puts you in a nice upright riding position and has a supportive seat and thick tires to soften your ride.

Best Overall
Aventon Pace 500 Next-Gen eBike

The Pace 500 Next-Gen is a remarkably sleek, comfortable, and powerful cruiser with an impressive top speed and range for its price point. If you’re new to ebikes but want to enter the game with some serious momentum, this bad boy serves up the ideal mix of features.

FAQs

Are electric bikes comfortable?

Yes. Equipped with the right features like an upright riding position, a good seat and tires, and shock absorption, ebikes can be an extremely comfortable ride. Check out Aventon’s Pace 500 Next-Gen, our best overall pick for a comfortable, yet powerful ebike.

What are the disadvantages of electric bikes?

eBikes offer speed and power that regular bikes never could, but the motor, battery, and electronics make them much heavier than ordinary bikes. Aside from their heavier weight, there aren’t many disadvantages of electric bikes, unless you forget to charge the battery.
